Coffee For Breakfast

My very good friend Chris Volesky, of the Vitality Center in Denver, Co., came up with this fantastic recipe!

Breakfast in a Cup

Sounds a bit like something out of Wall-E, but don’t worry, this recipe will keep your energy up and your body fat down! Most have heard of bulletproof coffee: butter and coconut oil in your coffee to give you lasting energy and appropriate fuel for your brain. At the Vitality Center we’ve taken it a step further and added collagen, a special type of protein utilized for structures such as bones, joints, hair, skin, and nails. Furthermore, the amino acid complex found in collagen (or gelatin) has been found to aid sleep and provides extra glycine, an amino acid which is needed in higher concentration when meat is a central part of the diet. We prefer using hydrolyzed collagen because it doesn’t congeal the way gelatin does, making it perfect for our morning cup of joe! Great Lakes and Vital Proteins both make high quality, grass-fed collagen.
Another great way of making a delicious breakfast coffee is to skip the butter and coconut oil and replace it with egg yolks from pasture raised chickens. Add a pinch of sea salt and a teaspoon of maple syrup and it’s like a nutrient packed cappuccino. This version still rocks a good amount of fat into your breakfast but steps up the nutrient density with important nutrients like vitamin A, D, E, K2, omega 3’s. So now you have fat, protein, and vital nutrients to kickstart your day… In a cup!
