About Emily Farish
In 2005 while pursuing my Master’s in Health Education, I realized that I didn’t want to write about health; I wanted to practice health. Shortly thereafter I was in a tragic auto accident. The only solution that was provided to me at the time was to take pain killers to address my pain. These painkillers were dangerously addictive.
I had no idea what Chinese medicine or Acupuncture could do for me. I was offered a session to help with the physical pain and emotional trauma from the accident. After my first treatment I felt better. After a few treatments I noticed I was no longer in physical pain for long periods of time. I slept better. I could actually walk and not feel terrible because the pain used to make me have to sit down.
I am often asked “Is acupuncture good for nerve pain?” From my own experience I can tell you that acupuncture made a huge difference in the pain that resulted from my accident. It changed my life.
I started working for an Acupuncturist making herbal prescriptions, formulas and tinctures for his patients. One year later I moved to study Traditional Chinese Medicine at the graduate university for Traditional Chinese Medicine, Five Branches University, in Santa Cruz, CA.
Following over 3,500 hours of study and practice in Acupuncture, Western Biomedicine, Chinese Herbal Medicine, Therapeutic Massage and Body Work, along with Western herbalism, I passed four medical board examinations in Acupuncture, Oriental Medicine Foundations, Chinese Herbal Medicine, and Western Biomedicine, earning recognition by the National Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM), and a Masters of Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine. I also passed the rigorous California Medical Board Examination for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. California Acupuncturists are licensed primary health care providers and are tested in western pharmacology herb / drug interactions, herbal formulation modifications along with western pharmaceuticals.
After spending two years teaching about Chinese medicine and nutrition at a wellness center in Asia, I returned to the state of Washington and began a residency program specializing in a unique form of Chinese medicine and Acupuncture in conjunction with the ancient Chinese pulse evaluation. During my training I realized the how well Acupuncture can address chronic health conditions that plague Americans on a daily basis. I specialized in chronic long term conditions, pain relief, and nutrition for health.
The most important thing that I have learned through my own experience with Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture is that my health is ever changing and ever evolving forward. There is never one answer but many approaches to help the body restore itself which is where Chinese medicine truly shines and provides answers. Chinese medicine and Acupuncture strives to bring back your own true vitality which we all desire from the stressors of modern living. You can feel better at any age.
Chinese medicine offered so many solutions for me to get out of pain and to move forward in my life. Not just physically from my auto accident, but emotionally. I practice this medicine because it changed my life. I hope it can help you too
